Founder of the Cape Town-based Maritime Training Enterprise (MTE), Yvette de Klerk, is passionate about seeing lives transformed through quality training, human capital development, and the acquisition of a broader range of skills that prepare graduates for gainful employment in the maritime industry.
Yvette managed numerous training programmes on behalf of MCS, and was the Operations Manager for the MBC/MCS Group of Companies when she decided during March 2016 that it was time to set sail from the safe harbour to embark on a new challenge.
Yvette recently joined SAIMI as the National Cadet Programme Manager, having been involved since its initial inception under the Management of SAMSA.
After obtaining her B.SocSci: Sport Psychology Degree and Personal Training Diploma - and working on a Cruise Ship as Fitness Instructor, Yvette started her Maritime Studies at the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania. She later went on to obtain her National Diploma in Maritime Studies from CPUT in Granger Bay.
Apart from having worked in the Deck Department at sea, Yvette comes with extensive crewing experience gained from working in Singapore. She is currently involved in various Industry Committees and Associations - Operation Phakisa Marine Transport Skills Working Group, Industry Advisory Councils for both CPUT and DUT, SAMSA Syllabus Committee, and is the Secretary for the GBOBA BF’s Tertiary Sub-Committee. This enables her to keep abreast of the latest Industry Developments as far as Maritime Training and Education is concerned.
