Malcolm Alexander had his first taste of the sea crewing on a Kalk Bay harbour fishing boat. After school he joined the South African Navy. His career took him from chef to mechanic, instructor. He became involved in training research and development, and finally as acting training evaluator.

After leaving the navy he was employed by Transport Education and Training Authority from 2005 as Education Training and Development specialist in the Western Cape.

Recent accomplishments include QCTO I (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) and QCTO II where the prioritized marine qualifications are in the process of registration as national qualifications finally closing the divide between SAQA / SAMSA.

“This included commercial diving which has been a personal goal of mine,” he says.
