Dr Hisashi Yamamoto is the secretary-general of the Romanian-based Global On-Board Training Center.
It is a joint initiative by Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy, Russia; Dalian Maritime University, China; Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty, Turkey; John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Philippines; Korea Maritime University, Republic of Korea; and the Admiral G.I. Nevelskoy Maritime University in Russia.
Dr Yamamoto’s maritime career started in 1970 when he joined Mitsui O.S.K. Lines in Japan. He was the managing director of Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (Europe) from 1990 to 1997.
His academic career started in 1994 as the visiting professor at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmo, Sweden.
Between 1997 and 2004, and again from 2009 to 2013 he was a senior lecturer at the Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty.
Dr Yamamoto served as advisor to the president of the Istanbul Technical University from 2010 to 2012.
From 2014 to 2015 he was Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Economics and Management, Piri Reis University, Turkey.
Dr Yamamoto is the founding secretary of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and founding secretary general of the Black Sea Association of Maritime Institutions (BSAMI).
Since 2010 he has been the founding secretary general of the Global On-Board Training Center (GOBTC).
Dr Yamamoto holds a PhD from Istanbul Technical University.
